Phoenix Flavor Ban Ordinance Proposal Update

We expect that Council Member Michael Nowakowksi’s proposed full tobacco and vapor product flavor ban to be placed on an agenda in the next few weeks. APMA is engaging with a group of stakeholders to oppose the effort. No language has been introduced so far.

One possibility is that it will be on the full City Council Agenda for next Wednesday, October 7. If this is the case, it will likely be a vote for the Council to consider whether to assign staff to study the issue and hold stakeholder meetings (this is called the 8-hour rule).

Another possibility is that it will be on the Public Safety Subcommittee on the following Wednesday, October 14. If this is the case, CM Nowakowski is the Chair of the committee and can seek either further study by staff or the ultimate question of whether to recommend the ban to the full Council.

Look for a Call to Action soon on how to weigh in on this issue.
