Stage II Vapor Recovery Deadline Approaches
The Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures Services Division (WMSD) is reminding all site owners with gasoline dispensers in area A (see map – greater Maricopa County and portions of Pinal and Yavapai counties) that all stage II vapor recovery systems must be decommissioned by the September 30, 2018 deadline. Sites that have not decommissioned stage 2 equipment by the deadline will be required to cease the sale of gasoline.
If you own gasoline dispensers and need more information regarding the requirements to remove stage II vapor recovery equipment by the September 30 deadline, contact WMSD at dwm@azda.gov or 602-542-4373. More information is available on their website.
Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler Names Henry Darwin as Deputy
After former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned from his position in early July, EPA’s Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler was announced as the Acting EPA Administrator.
On July 10, Wheeler spoke to EPA staff for the first time being in charge of the agency and stated that he would continue to advance President Trump’s agenda while listening to the recommendations of the staff.
Wheeler announced to EPA staff that Henry Darwin, a former Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Director, is taking on the duties of the second in command as deputy administrator at EPA. Darwin was brought to EPA by Scott Pruitt to streamline agency operations.
Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist and Senate staffer, vowed he would be more transparent than his predecessor.
In his first days as head of EPA, Wheeler has met with a more diverse set of visitors than the conservatives and business interests that met with Pruitt.
Wheeler can remain as acting administrator for 210 days, and that time can be extended by President Trump. Senate Republicans are in no rush to take on a difficult confirmation fight to replace Pruitt, but the Senate could consider Wheeler as a replacement after the November midterm elections.
