AZ Republic Runs Story on Phoenix Area Gasoline Prices, Waiver Request

Reporter Ryan Randazzo authored an article released on Monday, June 12 that was critical of Governor Hobbs’ decision not to pursue a Clean Air Act waiver in March. The waiver request was submitted by a refiner, supported by industry (including APMA and others), and would have allowed a temporary period when conventional gasoline would have been allowed in the Cleaner Burning Gasoline (CBG) area.

The article includes graphs that track Arizona gasoline prices against the US average and other western states over the past six months. It also examines past legislative proposals to modify the current Arizona CBG program including switching to another fuel blend. According to the article, OPIS Analyst Tom Kloza said that a White House task force that monitors gasoline prices was watching the situation but also did not pursue a waiver.
