Arizona Legislative Session Opens Next Week

Next Monday, Arizona’s 57th Legislature begins its work on crafting state laws and budget. This will be the third year of divided government with Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs bargaining with Republican majorities in both the State House and State Senate.
Senate President Warren Petersen is back with an expanded 17 Republican-13 Democrat make up in the Senate. Newly-selected House Speaker Steve Montenegro will take on the at times more rowdy State House with a 33 Republican-27 Democrat divide.

Petersen has said his priorities will include the economy, crime, border, fast election results, education and water security.
The Governor’s priorities will be laid out in her State of the State speech next Monday before a joint session of the Legislature.
APMA’s Legislative Committee will receive an email update on the Governor’s remarks next week and then will hold its first meeting of 2025 via zoom on Friday, January 24 at 1 pm. If you want to be included, please reach out to APMA.
