Arizona Legislative Session Opens and Governor Presents State of the State Speech |
|
On Monday, January 8, the Arizona Legislative Session officially began with the usual festivities at the State Capitol complex.
Senate President Warren Petersen’s opening remarks focused on helping constituents manage inflation, including lowering gas prices. Freedom Caucus Republicans introduced the House version of a bill to allow new blends of gasoline into the CBG-covered area in Maricopa and parts of Pinal County. A Senate companion bill is expected soon. HB2180 (available here) is being reviewed by the APMA Legislative Committee.
Governor Katie Hobbs gave her second State of the State Address Monday afternoon. She discussed a range of policy priorities including border security, education, housing, water regulation, sober living and long term care facilities and abortion. Her speech (transcript available here) was vague on details about how to pay for these ideas given the roughly $1 Billion budget shortfall the state is expected to face for the current and upcoming fiscal years.
If you are interested in these issues, you may want to join the APMA Legislative Committee to stay up to date on bills and regulatory actions. |
