Yesterday, Arizona Senate Republicans held a press conference to introduce plans for a bill in the upcoming legislative session to reduce gas prices. According to their press release, the bill will seek approval for 8 blends of gasoline to be permitted under Arizona law, which Republicans leaders expect EPA to approve as equally protective of the environment. They assert the bill will also allow legislative leadership to seek a fuel waiver from EPA on behalf of the state.
President Warren Petersen spoke on KTAR’s Mike Broomhead show to announce the plan yesterday. He predicted that the change would lower gas prices by 30 cents to one dollar per gallon. Senator Justine Wadsack and Representative Alexander Kolodin will introduce legislation in their respective chambers.
Governor Hobbs’ staff called the plan “half-baked” but expressed the Governor’s commitment to work on solutions to increase supply and lower cost of gas.
APMA is working to get a copy of the bill and give legislators the opportunity to learn more about the fuel distribution system.
