You’re On the Record: Media Spokesperson Training

Whether you’re responding to a pipeline disruption or talking about trucker shortages, EMA state executives can easily find themselves in the media spotlight. You want to be prepared to handle media interviews and external communications with confidence. In this interactive workshop led by Mimi Bliss of Bliss Communications, you’ll learn how to:

–              Understand how reporters do their jobs.

–              Develop and pivot to short, simple messages.

–              Reduce the chances of being misquoted or taken out-of-context.

–              Speak effectively on-camera, including virtual and in-person.

This workshop will focus on a realistic scenario such as a pipeline disruption. We’ll prepare for and handle Q&A, including tips for TV and virtual.  Click HERE for an advance look at some of Mimi’s tips.

Voice of the Industry: Prepare Volunteer Leaders to be Spokespersons

EMA state executives and their members talk frequently with  elected officials, policymakers and reporters. You want to communicate a clear, concise and consistent message.  This interactive workshop led by Mimi Bliss of Bliss Communications will focus on preparing volunteer leaders to tell your story, including how to:

–              Develop brief messages that spokespersons can remember under pressure.

–              Personalize the message with examples from individual businesses.

–              Avoid common pitfalls such as speaking for others and repeating negatives

–              Handle challenging questions about legislation

The workshop will focus on actionable tips that you can share with your members. We’ll walk through how to develop messages, coach members and anticipate questions around a hypothetical legislative scenario. You’ll leave with tips that you can share with your members.
